PaperPort Pro Office Standard 9.0
At last, a piece of software that exceeds expectations - I ve recently bought this and it has gone straight to the top of my Favourite Bits of Kit list.There s a few minor niggles re usability, but the bottom line is it installed cleanly, immediately worked with my HP Printer/Scanner with no setting up required, and I ve been having a lovely time scanning in paper letters & documents that I really should have filed long ago but never got round to...The nice thing about this electoninc filing is:- you can search for documents by keywords, and apparently it can also search the content of documents using its OCR capability- you can sort, back-up, email or fax documents very easily (and incidentally far more simply than using the HP software that came with the printer/scanner)- (my favourite) you can take a PDF, and highlight sections, attach electonic Post-its, write notes etc and save or forward the resulting document - great for proof-reading / giving feedback. This will even work if someone has sent you say a Word document to edit, sure you can edit online and hope they can use the Review function. Alternatively, convert it to PDF and write notes on it using PaperPort.- no need for all those bits of paper cluttering the place up. Scan, back-up, bin. Marvellous.All in all, it s great value especially compared to Adobe Acrobat, and it is one of those rare bits of software that you buy thinking it will be quite useful and it instantly becomes essential. It could be a bit more polished, but the sheer usefulness of the product at a reasonable price makes it more than worthy of 5*.
It got even better - As a PaperPort user since way back, I couldn t resist upgrading to the Pro version with the Acrobat support. This is a very worth-while improvement especially if you have to share documents from many sources with outside users.But in addition, PaperPort is as close you can get to the dream of the paper-less office . You can indeed store even very important banking documents in it and throw away the originals! After a few years of doing just that, I couldn t do without this work-horse of a program.
